Students must complete an application process to be admitted into the program. Applications may be obtained through Mrs. Wendland at CVCC or the guidance office. This course trains students to become teachers in preschools, Head Start programs, and day care facilities while providing a valuable foundation for those interested in pursuing a career in elementary education, psychology, social services, etc. Students are prepared to lead activities by studying child development, methods of teaching, lesson planning, creative involvement, nutrition, guiding behavior, professionalism, and safety. This is a one-year program combining classroom instruction and on-the-job work experience in the Little Learners Program for preschoolers. The Early Childhood Education program concludes with an assessment in the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI) for Early Childhood Education. Upon successful completion of this program students may apply for the Teachers for Tomorrow course as seniors.
