Cosmetology is the study of hair, skin, and nails and their related care. Students study and prepare in a classroom and clinical lab setting, using Manikins and live models for manipulative skills practice. The program emphasizes student and client safety, disinfection and infection control procedures, communication and management skills. Related areas of study include anatomy, psychology, work ethics, workforce development, and presentation of a professional image. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Internship program in conjunction with area salons in Cosmetology 2 and 3. Competency completions prepare the student for the Virginia state board licensing examination.
